2026_Linden Dance
In 1792, following the French Revolution, 60,000 linden trees were planted in villages all over France to celebrate freedom and in 1989 for the bicentenary of the revolution, the linden became an official French civic tree. This tree is honored in this project. Since antiquity, village festivals and dances have taken place under the linden trees in the village square to celebrate the arrival of spring. In Alsace and in Germany, this tradition takes a unique form: the Tanzlinde, literally translated as the dance linden, in French : Tilleul à Danser. A raised platform supports a terrace. At its center is the linden tree. The tree branches are directed to form a box, halfway between architecture and nature.
Here for the village of Reugney, the dance linden tree will have a platform offset from the center of the tree to offer a dance floor in the more contemporary layout of a DJ set. Ongoing project.
